The purpose of this project was to connect existing wellheads into a secondary system to better serve both the primary and secondary systems in the event of a failure. This project consisted of installation of 800 LF of 12” HDPE, 3,900 LF of 12” C900, and a pressure reducing vault system.
By making very minor adjustments to the alignment we were able to eliminate nearly half of the horizontal bends specified in the plan set, providing a significant cost savings to the owner.
One challenge that we faced was traffic, since Old Olympic Highway is a highly traveled corridor between Port Angeles and Sequim. We worked with the owner to shift the travel lanes over and work in a slightly compacted work zone rather than stopping traffic by one lane closure and creating a larger work zone. By doing this we were able to maintain the high volume of traffic with no traffic delays.
