The Swift Power Canal Embankment Rehabilitation project was critical for restoring Cowlitz PUD’s Hydroelectric Project back up to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) minimum stability standards. This hydroelectric project is on a three mile long canal that extends from the outlet of the Swift No.1 Powerhouse to Swift No.2 Powerhouse, where it discharges into Yale Lake. To restore the project back to necessary standards, our team constructed a reverse filter on the outboard side of the existing canal embankment to reinforce the canal and capture seepage. To monitor seepage flow, a toe drain was also installed along the foundation of the berm where the seepage water drained into a weir box.
