In order to upgrade and increase the capacity of the existing hatchery, the Hoodsport Hatchery Rearing Pond Replacement project included the demolition of all existing hatchery ponds and the construction of 18 (10 feet x 82 feet) raceway rearing ponds. Construction of the ponds included pouring over 1,100 cubic yards of concrete, 28,000 square feet of concrete slab pour and patch, 22,340 square feet of concrete wall construction, and 3,000 square feet of metal grate fabrication and placement. Uniquely, the main concrete slab was poured in a checkerboard pattern to accommodate the amount of waterstop required in the slab to minimize cracking.

Our crews also replaced the existing supply and drain piping with 1,160 feet of new 12”-24” PVC, providing new connections to creek water, salt water, and reuse supplies. Two new pumping systems and an aeration structure were also installed, providing improved water quality for the future salmon chum.
