The Tyrone S. Woods Memorial Park, located in Oregon City, spans across nine acres and serves as a preservation of natural resources, a community benefit for passive and active outdoor activities, and as a reminder to the City of the importance of everyday bravery and sacrifice. The park provides several amenities such as covered picnic areas, looped walking paths, a nature playground, lawn areas, benches, an off-leash dog park, and a granite memorial and flagpole to commemorate home-town hero Tyrone S. Woods. Mr.Woods served as a CIA operative whose life was taken on September 12, 2012 while serving in Benghazi.
Throughout the year-long construction process, our crews incorporated many new park features while simultaneously preserving and bettering the existing wetland, stream, and natural features of the land. This included adding stormwater planters around 3 sides of the perimeter of the park to better manage site drainage, a 50-foot planting corridor along the stream to ensure stream bank stabilization, stormwater swales, and additional storm water and natural planting areas.
Site preparation and utilities included 18,500 cubic yards cut and fill, one retaining wall, and a combined total of 1,800 LF of 1” waterline, 6” sewer, and 6”-12” storm lines. Paving and pathway construction throughout the park included constructing over 30,000 square-feet of concrete sidewalks, walking paths, and vehicular pads along with 2,000 linear feet of curb; 29,000 square-feet of paving including street improvements, parking pull outs, and the two parking lots.
Site amenities included the construction of a two-toilet restroom building, a covered wooden picnic shelter, a play structure and chin-up bar, a 3.5 acre fenced dog park, and a seat wall along the play area.
