The 36,866 square-foot Willapa Center in Raymond, WA features a 3-story mixed-use building providing access to affordable housing, daycare, and non-profit tenant space to Raymond’s small logging community. Designed to accommodate a variety of living situations, the Willapa Center provides thirty dwelling units on the top two floors consisting of eight one-bedroom apartments, seventeen two-bedroom apartments, five three-bedroom apartments, a common laundry room, an elevator and utility spaces. On the ground floor, the Willapa Center hosts a licensed daycare center designed to provide an interactive learning space for three to four-year-old children of both apartment and city residents, two non-profit commercial offices, and a management office for the center. Located on a fairly small site with unstable ground due to a high water table, construction of the center required unique foundation stabilization requiring construction of 133 piles 50-55 feet deep.
